The UAE and NASA announced their newest collaboration in space, where the UAE will provide the Crew and Science Airlock module for the Artemis Lunar Gateway Space Station. Following the announcement, Ambassador Al Otaiba stated, “The UAE’s contribution to Gateway is really one more small step forward in our close relationship with the U.S. — while at the same time, representing a giant leap forward for humankind’s exploration of the moon and deep space. We are gratified to join NASA and a global best-in-class team.”

Renowned for its innovation, the UAE has prioritized environmental sustainability and solutions for improved clean energy and climate change. Yousef Al Otaiba sat down with the American Association for the Advancement of Science, outlining the UAE’s plans for sustainability and clean energy.

In an interview with Science & Diplomacy, UAE Ambassador to the US, Yousef Al Otaiba discussed the cooperation between the two countries on various initiatives. These include efforts related to climate science, clean energy technology, space exploration and sustainable food production.

In November, delegates from around the world, including UAE Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed, met at the COP28 conference in Dubai. The discussion covered many topics of interest for the countries in attendance, including tackling climate issues through cooperation and collective action.

Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba and event host Steve Harvey received a call from astronauts at the International Space Station during a celebration of the countries’ bilateral cooperation in space. Senior officials from the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) and NASA also joined the event to discuss UAE-U.S. collaboration efforts and highlight the accomplishments of the UAE’s progress in space.
