On September 15, 2020, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Emirati Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan arrived at the White House to normalize diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Following the ceremony, Yousef Al Otaiba’s long-time efforts came to fruition in the historic signing of the Abraham Accords in Washington, DC.

January 9, 2024 – UAE Embassy in Washington, D.C.
The UAE and NASA announced their newest collaboration in space, where the UAE will provide the Crew and Science Airlock module for the Artemis Lunar Gateway Space Station. Following the announcement, Ambassador Al Otaiba stated, “The UAE’s contribution to Gateway is really one more small step forward in our close relationship with the U.S. — while at the same time, representing a giant leap forward for humankind’s exploration of the moon and deep space. We are gratified to join NASA and a global best-in-class team.”
In early March, the UAE announced that it had completed its project to load fuel into its new Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant. This accomplishment comes almost 10 years after the USA and UAE signed a bilateral agreement for nuclear cooperation.
