Following an official visit by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Washington, DC, earlier this spring, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was honored to welcome US President Donald J. Trump to Abu Dhabi in May 2025, marking a pivotal moment in a nearly 50-year UAE-US partnership. From ceremonial receptions to strategic dialogues and groundbreaking announcements, the state visit reaffirmed both nations’ commitment to a future built on shared values, deep trust and transformative innovation.
HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan received President Trump at Qasr Al Watan, where the two leaders participated in high-level talks focused on expanding bilateral cooperation. Discussions centered on pressing regional challenges and opportunities to advance joint priorities across defense, energy, education and emerging technologies.
A Shared Vision for the Future of AI
Among the visit’s historic outcomes was the unveiling of the UAE-US AI Acceleration Partnership — a bold, new initiative that reflects a mutual ambition to lead the world in responsible artificial intelligence (AI) development.
“Reinforcing our shared commitment to technological security and integrity, this initiative is just the latest in a broad spectrum of Emirati-American partnerships, grounded in decades of mutual trust.”
In the attendance of both presidents, the UAE announced the launch of a 5-gigawatt AI campus in Abu Dhabi, the largest AI infrastructure project outside the US. Developed in collaboration with American technology firms and spearheaded by G42, the campus will serve as a sovereign digital innovation hub, supporting AI-grade computing power for nearly half the world’s population.
This next-generation digital infrastructure will operate under robust joint security protocols, including physical safeguards, third-party validations and ongoing regulatory oversight from both governments, further reinforcing the trust that defines the UAE-US alliance.
Cultural Diplomacy and Mutual Respect
As part of the state visit, President Trump toured the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque alongside His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. President Trump paid respects at the mausoleum of the UAE’s Founding Father and reflected on the country’s rich tradition of promoting coexistence and tolerance.
The visit also included a ceremonial dinner hosted in the President’s honor, symbolizing the strong cultural and interpersonal ties that have long complemented UAE-US political and economic cooperation.
Looking Ahead
From the skies above Abu Dhabi, where a ceremonial jet escort welcomed Air Force One, to the halls of Qasr Al Watan, where diplomatic milestones were set, the visit was both a celebration of progress and a springboard for future collaboration. As the two nations work together to build secure, inclusive and sustainable frameworks for economic and technological growth, the legacy of this visit will resonate for years to come.
