In a pivotal move for the advancement of cross-border travel, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the United States (US) have formalized a momentous agreement that will soon enable Emiratis to benefit from the US Global Entry Program. Signed during the latest official visit by UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, this accord marks a significant step toward streamlining the travel process for UAE citizens. The agreement is expected to be fully implemented by October 2024.

Finalized between the UAE Ministry of Interior and the US Department of Homeland Security, this major milestone is part of ongoing efforts to simplify entry procedures at US airports. The Global Entry Program, which grants expedited entry to pre-screened travelers, will soon be available to Emiratis at over 75 airports across the US and other select countries.

UAE Ambassador to the United States, Yousef Al Otaiba emphasized the strategic importance of this agreement, stating, “This arrangement represents another step forward in our shared efforts to strengthen bilateral security and facilitate commerce and travel.” Ambassador Al Otaiba’s continued advocacy for initiatives that enhance travel and security underscores the growing relationship between the UAE and the US

Once finalized, all approved Emirati citizens will be able to quickly process their entry into the US by using Global Entry kiosks, bypassing the once-long lines and paperwork of the past. Although participants will still need a valid US visa to enter, this program simplifies other entry requirements, allowing for a more seamless experience at US Customs and Border Protection facilities.

Increased Collaboration

This crucial partnership also paves the way for increased collaboration in customs operations. Alongside the Global Entry Program, the UAE and US governments have agreed to enhance their customs cooperation, which includes sharing customs expertise and information. This broader commitment aims to bolster trade, economic relations and security between the two nations.

As the criteria for the UAE’s participation in the Global Entry Program are developed, the initiative reflects the UAE’s dedication to fostering international alliances that benefit its citizens. Through Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s leadership, the unwavering commitment of the Embassy and the staggering advocacy of Ambassador Al Otaiba, the UAE continues to champion advancements that facilitate worldwide connectivity and strengthen bilateral ties.
