Medical Care & Research

Committed to bettering public health around the world, Yousef Al Otaiba has supported initiatives that tackle diseases afflicting people in underserved areas. Additionally, he and his wife Abeer have provided support to institutions that advance research to improve pediatric health and cancer treatments.

“You’ve built this relationship over five years, given this grant, gotten to know everyone at Children’s, under the assumption that we’ll probably never need them for our own family. When you realise your child needs serious health care…it’s pretty scary – if you didn’t believe in karma before something like this happens, you believe in it now.”

Sports & Community

An athlete himself, Ambassador Al Otaiba understands the importance of sports and how camaraderie through athletics can build and foster a community. He is a member of the Special Olympics Board of Directors and has assisted with the Special Olympics World Games. He was also a key figure in the development and establishment of the UAE Embassy’s Community Soccer Program.

“The 2019 World Games represent a milestone, but there is much more to do. Fifty years after Special Olympics began in Chicago, the movement continues to strive for a better world.”

Disaster Relief

Ambassador Al Otaiba has worked alongside the UAE Embassy to assist Americans in the wake of natural disasters. From the devastation following Superstorm Sandy, to that caused by one of the United States’ largest-ever tornadoes, the UAE and Ambassador Al Otaiba have stepped in to provide critical aid and assist with recovery efforts — rebuilding communities, reviving local wildlife and funding efforts to support affected schools.

“From hurricanes Katrina and Sandy, to Joplin, Missouri, which was devastated by one of the largest tornadoes ever recorded in the U.S., the UAE has helped communities across the U.S. recover from natural disasters. This is what friends do for each other in times of need…”
